Setting up the resource managers

Lenovo XClarity Orchestrator leverages resource managers to collect device health, inventory, and metrics and to perform management and provisioning tasks on devices in your data center. The resource managers are installed on devices in your data center and can be distributed across multiple sites where your devices are located, which results in fast response times and low latency.

XClarity Orchestrator can support an unlimited number of resource managers that collectively manage a maximum of 10,000 total devices.

XClarity Orchestrator supports the following resource managers.
  • Lenovo XClarity Management Hub 2.0 v1.0.2 and later

    XClarity Orchestrator manages and monitors devices that are under management by XClarity Management Hub 2.0. Each XClarity Management Hub 2.0 instance can manage up to 5,000 devices.

    Important
    Advanced functions (such as operating system deployment and server configuration using configuration patterns) is not supported by this management hub

  • Lenovo XClarity Management Hub

    XClarity Orchestrator manages, monitors, and provisions devices that are under management by XClarity Management Hub. Each XClarity Management Hub instance can manage up to 10,000 ThinkEdge Client devices.

  • Lenovo XClarity Administrator v4.0 or later

    XClarity Orchestrator manages, monitors, and provisions physical devices that are under management by XClarity Administrator. Each XClarity Administrator instance can manage up to 1,000 devices (servers, chassis, switches, and storage).

    XClarity Orchestrator supports all devices that are supported by XClarity Administrator and XClarity Management Hub except where noted.     Note
    The OS deployment feature requires XClarity Administrator v4.0 or later.
  • Schneider Electric EcoStruxure IT Expert

    XClarity Orchestrator manages and monitors infrastructure resources, such as PDUs and UPSs, that are managed by EcoStruxure IT Expert.

  • VMware vRealize Operations Manager

    XClarity Orchestrator monitors virtual workload metrics from vRealize Operations Manager.

    Note
    vRealize Operations Manager is not included in the list of resource managers, as it does not manage devices in XClarity Orchestrator.
  • Setting up XClarity Management Hub 2.0
    Lenovo XClarity Orchestrator monitors and manages devices through one or more light-weight device managers, called management hubs. The management hubs run as a virtual appliance on premises in the data centers, across multiple sites, where your devices are located, to provide in fast response times, low latency, and data security.
  • Setting up XClarity Management Hub for edge-client devices
    XClarity Management Hub is a device-management solution that is used in conjunction with Lenovo XClarity Orchestrator for centralized management of supported Lenovo edge-client devices in a secure environment. It runs as a virtual appliance on premises in your data center where your devices are located, which results in fast response times and low latency.
  • Setting up XClarity Administrator
    Lenovo XClarity Administrator is a device-management solution that works with an orchestrator portal, such as Lenovo XClarity Orchestrator, for centralized management and provisioning of supported Lenovo servers, switches, storage devices, and chassis in a secure environment. It runs as a virtual appliance on premises in your data center where your devices are located, which results in fast response times and low latency.
