Procedure
- Make preparations for this task.
- Power off the node (see Power off the node); then, disconnect all external cables from the node.
If necessary, press the release clip with a flat-head screwdriver to remove an external network cable from the rear of a 2U node.![](d3-107-cable-250.png)
- Remove the node from the chassis (see Remove a node from the chassis); then, carefully lay the node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the node with the front toward you.
- When removing the node, note the node tray number and make sure to install the node in the same tray from which it was removed. Reinstalling the node into a different tray requires the node to be reconfigured.
- For safety, make sure to hold the node with both hands when lifting the node.
- Remove the top cover (see Remove the top cover).
- If the GPU air duct is installed in the node, remove it (see Remove the GPU air duct).
- If the internal adapter bracket is installed and blocks the way of removing the fan cage, disconnect all the cables from the internal adapter; then, remove the internal adapter bracket from the node (see Remove the internal adapter bracket).
- Disconnect all the fan cables from the system board.
- Remove the fan cage from the node.
Pivot the release plunger to the unlocked position.
Carefully push the fan cage assembly toward the rear of the node; then, lift the fan cage out of the node.Figure 1. Removal of the fan cage![Hot-swap fan removal](d3-047-fancage-300.png)
- Place the fan cage on a flat, static-protective surface.
After this task is completed
- Install a replacement unit (see Install a fan cage).
- If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
