Install the E3.S drive backplane module

Follow instructions in this section to install the E3.S drive backplane module.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.

Procedure

  1. If necessary, install the two backplane brackets to the E3.S drive backplane.
    1. Align the two tabs on the bottom of the backplane with the slots on the backplane brackets, and insert them into the slots.
    2. Fasten the two screws to secure the two backplane brackets to the backplane.

  2. Install the E3.S drive backplane module.
    1. Orient the backplane module with the guide hole aligning with the guide pin under the retention latch; then, align the tabs on the bottom of the backplane module with the slots on the drive cage, and insert them into the slots.
    2. Push the top of the backplane module toward the drive cage until it clicks into place.
    3. Fasten the two thumbscrews to secure the backplane module to the drive cage.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the E3.S drive cage assembly. See Install the E1.S/E3.S drive cage assembly.
  2. Reconnect the power and signal cables to the E3.S drive backplane. See E3.S drive backplane cable routing for more information.
  3. Reinstall the E3.S hot-swap drives or drive bay fillers (if any) into the drive bays. See Install an E1.S/E3.S hot-swap drive.
  4. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
