Install a hot-swap fan

Follow instructions in this section to install a hot-swap fan.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Make sure to replace a defective fan with another unit of the exact same type.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
  • The following illustrations show the front and rear fan numbering:

  • Install the 12V fans when using 3200W power supplies, and the 54V fans when using 3800W power supplies.
  • Do not mix 12V and 54V fans. Identify the fans using the markings below, but the removal and installation procedures remain the same for both types:
    • 12V fans: These fans have no marking on the top surface.
    • 54V fans: These fans feature a "54V" stamp on the top surface.

Procedure

  1. Make sure the airflow direction label on the fan is facing up; then, align the fan with the fan bay.
  2. Slide the fan into the bay until it clicks into place.
