Remove an NVLink switch tray from the rack

Follow instructions in this section to remove an NVLink switch tray from the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

CAUTION

Use safe practices when lifting.

Attention

Do not leave multiple trays open at the same time, as it may increase the risk of over-tilting or instability.

Attention

• Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
• Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
• Power off the NVLink switch tray and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the rack solution.

Note

Ensure the following tools are available to perform the replacement:

• Two 30L containers (one labeled with “Fresh” and one labeled with Waste") with integrated hose mounts
• Air compressor
• Approved coolant: PG25, NALCO® TCS101, or HPCCL2000 (Deionized water premixed with a compatible antimicrobial agent)
• Cordless transfer pump
• Lift tool
• Liquid cooling service kit includes below:
  • Draining kit: Connects the tray to the drainage/coolant container.
  • Air input kit: Connects the air compressor to the tray
  • Filler kit: Connects the pump to the tray
  • Coolant source kit: Connects the coolant/fresh deionized water container to the pump.
  • Nitrogen release kit with gauge: Connects the tray to the drainage container.
• NVLink connector covers
• Phillips #2 bit
• Quick connector caps
• Spill kit
• Torque screwdriver

Procedure

1. Slide out the NVLink switch tray.
   1. Open the handles on both sides of the tray.
   2. Hold the handles and slide the tray out until it stops.

2. Press the white latches on both sides of the rail to remove the NVLink switch tray completely from the rack. Then, place the tray on the lift tool.

3. After tray removal, install the four NVLink connector covers and two quick connector caps onto the rear of the tray.

4. Remove the inner rail from the NVLink switch tray.
   1. Loosen the screw that secure the inner rail.
   2. Slightly pull the latch upward to disengage the inner rail from the mounting pins on the tray.
   3. Remove the inner rail from the tray.
   4. Repeat the same steps above to remove the other inner rail.

5. Remove both quick connector caps from the NVLink switch tray.
6. Drain the coolant from the NVLink switch tray.
   1. Ensure the ball valve on the draining kit is closed. Then, attach the kit to the left quick connector on the rear of the tray.
   2. Place the exhaust end of the draining kit into the drainage container.
   3. Gradually open the ball valve on the draining kit to bleed off any internal pressure; liquid will begin to flow into the container.
   4. Attach the air input kit to the right quick connector on the rear of the tray.
   5. Connect the opposite end of air input kit to the air compressor.
   6. Activate the compressor to apply air pressure. Maintain this for approximately five minutes.
   7. Once the coolant stream stops, power off the compressor, close the ball valve, and disconnect the hoses from the tray.

7. Sanitize the NVLink switch tray.
   1. Ensure the ball valve on the draining kit is closed. Then, attach the kit to the left quick connector.
   2. Place the exhaust end of the draining kit into the drainage container.
   3. Gradually open the open the ball valve on the draining kit to ensure no pressure or liquid remains in the tray.

   4. Install the silicon washers on the ends of filler kit and coolant source kit that connect to the cordless transfer pump.

   5. Attach the filler kit to the right quick connector.
   6. Connect the opposite end of the filler kit to the pump.
   7. Place the coolant source kit into the fresh deionized water container.
   8. Connect the opposite end of the coolant source kit to the pump.
   9. Turn on the pump and run for five minutes or until the water is consumed. A five-minute flush at a flow rate of 3 LPM requires a total volume of 15 L of deionized water.
   10. Power off the pump when the time expires or the water is consumed. Then, disconnect the kits from the right quick connector and the pump.
       Note

       Do not recirculate water. This is a one-way flush. Dispose of all water collected in the drainage container.

   11. Attach the air input kit to the right quick connector.
   12. Connect the opposite end of air input kit to the air compressor.
   13. Activate the compressor to apply air pressure. Maintain this for five minutes.
   14. Power off the compressor. Then, disconnect the kit from the right quick connector.

   15. Use TCS101 or HPCCL2000 coolant for circulation. Adjust coolant volume based on the specific piping configuration.
   16. Attach the filler kit to the right quick connector.
   17. Connect the opposite end of the filler kit to the pump.
   18. Place the coolant source kit into the coolant container.
   19. Connect the opposite end of the coolant source kit to the pump.
   20. Turn on the pump and circulate for ten minutes at a flow rate of 3 LPM.
   21. Turn off the pump and disconnect the kits from the right quick connector and the pump.

   22. Attach the air input kit to the right quick connector.
   23. Connect the opposite end of air input kit to the air compressor.
   24. Activate the compressor to apply air pressure. Maintain this for twenty minutes.
   25. Power off the compressor, close the ball valve, and disconnect the hoses from the tray and reinstall both the quick connector caps.
