BMC node auto-discovery and management
Lenovo XClarity Integrator Hardware Management Pack can discover and manage the BMC node automatically when the target server is managed by Operations Manager.
BMC node auto-discovery and management are not accessible to the Flex System servers and the BladeCenter servers.
In an IPv6-only environment, BMC node auto-discovery and management are only accessible to the ThinkSystem servers. For the supported Lenovo ThinkSystem server models, refer to Supported server models and scenarios.
By default, the BMC node auto-discovery and management function is disabled.
Before you begin
Before using the BMC node auto-discovery and management function, ensure that:
PowerShell 3.0 or a later version, and .NET 4.5 or a later version are installed on the target server.
The server is managed by Operations Manager.
The BMC node is connected, and IPMI over KCS Access is enabled on the BMC node.
A local account is allowed on BMC.
The BMC node auto-discovery and management function is enabled.
Enabling or disabling BMC node auto-discovery and management
- Log in to XClarity Integrator Service. Refer to Logging in to XClarity Integrator Service.
- On the Lenovo XClarity Integrator Service window, click BMC Management Settings in the left panel.
- Select or clear the check box of Automatically discover the BMC of servers already managed by SCOM, and then click Save. If the BMC node auto-discovery fails, alerts will be reported on the related Windows servers. To view the alerts, click .
If the network port of XClarity Integrator Service has been changed, you shall change the UUSServerIP value and the UUSPort value. The value can be changed in the “Lenovo.HardwareMgmtPack.AutoOOB.Discovery” Object Discovery program in Operations Manager.
By default, the auto-discovery and authentication interval is four hours (14400 seconds). You can change the interval in the Lenovo.HardwareMgmtPack.AutoOOB.Discovery if necessary.
Do not override the UUSCert value and the UUSPbKey value.
The BMC node auto-discovery does not work when only LDAP authentication is enabled on the target BMC node or the local account is disabled.
During the BMC node auto-discovery, a new credential will be created in the BMC node, including a random password for XClarity Integrator Service.
