Remove a node from the rack

Follow instructions in this section to remove a node from the rack.

Do not place any object on top of a rack-mounted device unless that rack-mounted device is intended for use as a shelf.

Remove the shipping bracket

Procedure

  1. Loosen the four captive screws on both sides of the shipping bracket.

  2. Pull the shipping bracket to remove it from the enclosure.

Remove the node from the enclosure

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for this task.
    1. Remove the middle cover.

      Remove the middle top cover of 1U2N enclosure

      • Loosen the six captive screws on the middle top cover.
      • Lift up the middle top cover from the enclosure, and place it on a flat clean surface.

      • Loosen the eight captive screws on the middle top cover.
      • Lift up the middle top cover from the enclosure, and place it on a flat clean surface.

    2. Remove the air baffle. Pinch the air baffle by the blue touch points, and carefully lift the air baffle out of the enclosure.

    3. Disconnect all the cables from the node. To remove the power adapter cable, do the following:
      1. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to loosen the screw that lock the power cable.
      2. Disengage the power cable from the node.

  2. The fan control board connector on the rear of the node is with a protective dust cap attached. Make sure to cover the connector with the cap after disconnecting the cable.
  3. Press and hold the release tab behind the node, and pull the node out of the enclosure.

    Note
    A node bay should be installed with a node or a node filler. To install a node filler, insert the filler into the node bay; then, secure the filler with two screws.

  4. (Optional) If the node is not to be reinstalled to the enclosure, do the following:
    1. Change the machine type for proper operation. See Change the machine type for operating in an enclosure (trained technician only).
    2. Remove a rack mount fan shroud. See Remove a fan shroud.
    3. Install the fan modules to the node. See Install a fan module.
    4. Install a desktop mount fan shroud. See Install the fan shroud.

Remove the enclosure from the rack

Procedure

  1. If the rack has a cable management arm (CMA) installed, remove it first.
  2. If applicable, remove the M6 screws installed on the rear of the rails.

  3. Disengage the enclosure from the rack on the front.

    1. Flip down the covers on the rack latches.
    2. Loosen the screws that secure the enclosure.
  4. Remove the enclosure from the rack.

    1. Slide the enclosure all the way out until it stops.
    2. Push up the latches on the rails.
    3. Lift up the enclosure to remove it from the rails completely. Place the enclosure on a flat and sturdy surface.
  5. If necessary, remove the inner rails from the enclosure.

    1. Push the blue tab to release the latch.
    2. Push the inner rail backwards until the T-pins on the enclosure disengaged from the inner rail.
  6. Repeat the previous step to the other rail.
