Install the WLAN/Bluetooth modules

Follow instructions in this section to install the WLAN/Bluetooth modules.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

Procedure

  1. Locate the slot on the wireless adapter to install the WLAN/Bluetooth module.


    1 x86 WLAN module (with two cable connectors)2 XCC WLAN and Bluetooth module (with three cable connectors)
  2. If applicable, remove the dummy cover from the WLAN/Bluetooth module slot.
    1. Press the retainer to disengage the cover.
    2. Lift up the front end of the cover at an angle.
    3. Remove the cover from the slot.

  3. If applicable, remove the film from the thermal pad on the wireless adapter.

  4. Install the WLAN/Bluetooth module.
    1. Insert the WLAN/Bluetooth module into the slot at an angle.
    2. Press the WLAN/Bluetooth module down until it clicks into place.
      Note
      Make sure that the WLAN/Bluetooth module is firmly secured by the retainer. If the retainer does not engage with the module, press the retainer and adjust the module until the module is firmly secured.

  5. Install the WLAN/Bluetooth module heat sink.
    1. Remove the film from the thermal pad on the heat sink.

    2. Align the heat sink with the slots on the wireless adapter; then, lower the heat sink until it is firmly seated.
    3. Tighten the two captive screws to secure the heat sink.

  6. Connect the WLAN cables and the Bluetooth antenna cable to the WLAN/Bluetooth modules..
    1. Locate the corresponding connector.

      The orientation of the following table aligns with the above illustration.

    2. If applicable, remove the protection cover from the cable.
    3. Gently press the cable connector down until it clicks in the connector on the WLAN module.
      Note
      Repeat this step to connect all the necessary cables to the WLAN/Bluetooth modules.

    4. Pivot the cable holder to 1 lock position.

    5. Press the side of the cable holder; then, insert the cable holder to the slot on the wireless adapter. Make sure the cables are secured by the cable holder.

    6. Secure the cables into the cable clips on the wireless adapter; then, route the cables to the corner of the chassis.
