Install a fan

Follow instructions in this section to install a fan.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Make sure to replace a defective fan with another unit of the exact same type.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Important
Some chassis might come with standard fans. Make sure to install high-performance fans when GPU adapters with TDP greater than 400W are installed in the system.

Procedure

  1. Make sure the fan cage is installed in the chassis. See Install the fan cage.
  2. Align the fan to the fan slot in the fan cage; then, insert the fan into the fan cage and press it until it clicks into place.
