Remove the rack latches

Follow the instructions in this section to remove the rack latches.

About this task

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove it from the rack. See Remove the server from rails.

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for this task.
    1. Remove the security bezel. See Remove the security bezel.
    2. Remove the front top cover. See Remove the front top cover.
    3. If you are replacing the left rack latch with USB/MiniDP, remove the rear top cover and PCIe riser 1 or PCIe riser A. See Remove the rear top cover and Remove a PCIe riser.
  2. Disconnect the cable on the rack latch from the system board assembly.
  3. Remove the cable retainer.

    1. Remove the screws that secure the cable retainer on the side of the server.
    2. Rotate the lower part of the cable retainer and remove it from the chassis.
  4. Remove the screws that secure the rack latch.

  5. Slide the rack latch forward slightly and then remove the rack latch from the chassis.
