Remove a 2.5-inch drive from a 3.5-inch drive bay

Follow instructions in this section to remove a 2.5-inch drive from a 3.5-inch drive bay.

About this task

To avoid potential danger, read and follow the following safety statements.
  • S002
    disconnect all power
    CAUTION
    The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read the Installation guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).

  • Use the front door key to unlock the front door, and then open the front door.

Procedure

  1. Locate the drive to be removed.
  2. Remove the 3.5-inch drive tray in which the 2.5-inch drive has been installed (see Remove a simple-swap drive).
  3. Remove the five screws that secure the 2.5-inch drive and the drive adapter; then, remove the 2.5-inch drive and the drive adapter from the tray.

  4. Remove the two screws that secure the 2.5-inch drive; then, lift the drive to remove it from the drive adapter.
