Installing a system-board assembly
Use this information to install a system-board assembly. There is a system-board assembly for both the upper and lower compute nodes. The upper and lower system-board assemblies are not the same and can not be interchanged. The procedure for installing both system-board assemblies is similar.
Note
This procedure should be performed only by trained service technicians.
Before you install a system-board assembly, complete the following steps:
- Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
- If the Flex System x222 Compute Node is installed in a chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for instructions).
- Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward the left.
- Obtain the following for use during the replacement procedure (see Parts listing, Types 7916 and 2589).
Important
When you replace a system-board assembly, you must update the compute node with the latest firmware or restore the preexisting firmware. Make sure that you have the latest firmware or a copy of the preexisting firmware before you proceed. See Updating firmware and device drivers for more information.
Note
If you are replacing a system-board assembly, make sure that you attach a Repair Identification (RID) tag to the appropriate tray assembly (see Removing a system-board assembly for information about using the RID tag with an Flex System x222 Compute Node).

After you install a system-board assembly, complete the following steps:
- Install the upper compute node (see Installing the upper compute node for instructions).
- Install the Flex System x222 Compute Node into the chassis (see Installing a compute node in a chassis for instructions).
- Use the CMM web interface or the CMM command-line interface to restore the IP address of the compute node IMM.
- To assign a compute node IMM IP addresses from the CMM web interface, click "Flex System Chassis Management Module: User's Guide". . For more information, see
- To assign a compute node IMM IP addresses from the CMM command-line interface, use the CMM ifconfig command. For more information about the CMM ifconfig command, see the "Flex System Chassis Management Module: Command-Line Interface Reference Guide".
NoteIf you configured static IP addresses for the compute node IMM, you will not be able to access the IMM remotely or through theFlex System Manager management software (if installed) until the IP address of the IMM is restored. - Reactivate any Features on Demand features. Instructions for automating the activation of features and installing activation keys is in the Features on Demand User’s Guide. To download the document, go to the Lenovo Features on Demand website, log in, and click Help.
- Update the Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) and DMI/SMBIOS data with new vital product data (VPD). Use the Advanced Settings Utility to update the UUID and DMI/SMBIOS data (see Updating the Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) and DMI/SMBIOS data with vital product data).
- Update the upper or lower compute node with the latest firmware or restore the preexisting firmware (see Updating firmware and device drivers for more information).
