Removing a hot-swap fan

Use this information to remove a hot-swap fan.

Attention

To ensure proper server operation, replace a failed hot-swap fan within 30 seconds.

To remove a hot-swap-fan, complete the following steps:

1. Read the safety information that begins on Safety and Installation guidelines.
2. Remove the top cover (see Removing the top cover). The LED on the system board near the connector for the failing hot-swap fan will be lit.
   Attention

   It is not necessary to disconnect the power when removing the hot-swap fan. To ensure proper system cooling, do not remove the top cover for more than 30 minutes during this procedure.
3. 1 Pull the fan latch to the left to release the fan from the fan connector and 2 pull the fan out of the fan cage.

   Attention

   To ensure proper operation, replace a failed hot-swap fan within 30 seconds.
4. If you are instructed to return the fan, follow all of the packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
