Remove the rails from the rack

Follow instructions in this section to remove the rails from the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician..

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
Ensure the following tools are available to perform the replacement:
  • Torque screwdriver
  • Torx T25 bit

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for this task.
    1. Remove the corresponding compute tray, management switch, or NVLink switch tray. See Remove a compute tray from the rack, Remove a management switch from the rack, or Remove an NVLink switch tray from the rack.
    2. Remove the corresponding ejector bars. See Remove a ejector from the rack.
  2. Remove the corresponding rail screw located on the manifold bracket.

  3. Loosen the corresponding thumbscrew on the rear rack to detach the rail from the manifold.

  4. Remove the screw and washer from the front rail bracket.

  5. Remove the rail.
    1. Push the front of the rail toward the rear of the rack to disengage it.
    2. Slide the rear of the rail toward the front, then remove it out of the rack.

  6. Repeat these steps to remove the other rail.
