Install the rails to the rack

Follow instructions in this section to install the rails to the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
Ensure the following tools are available to perform the replacement:
  • Torque screwdriver
  • Torx T25 bit

Procedure

  1. Install the rail.
    Important
    Ensure both ends of the rail are seated at the same height.

    1. Align the rear rail bracket with the rear rack.
    2. Insert the guide pins into the designated holes on the rack.
    3. Align the front rail bracket with the front rack; then, insert the guide pins into the designated holes on the rack.
    4. Set the torque screwdriver to 23 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, install the screw and washer.

  2. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, install the corresponding rail screw to the manifold bracket.

  3. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, tighten the corresponding thumbscrew on the rear rack to secure the rail to the manifold.

  4. Repeat these steps to install the other rail.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the compute tray, management switch, or NVLink switch tray. See Install a compute tray to the rack. Install a management switch to the rack, or Install an NVLink switch tray to the rack.
  2. Reinstall the ejector bars. See Install a ejector bar to the rack.
  3. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
