Install a 2.5-inch hot-swap rear drive

Use this information to install a 2.5-inch hot-swap rear drive.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding systems.

Procedure

  1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the drive to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server. And then, take the drive out of the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
  2. Install a drive to a toolless drive tray.

    1. Align the guiding pins on the tray and place the drive evenly into the tray.
    2. Close the right bracket and make sure that it clicks into place.
  3. Install the drive in the drive bay.

    2. Close the drive tray handle to lock the drive in place.
  4. Check the drive LEDs to verify that the drive is operating normally. For details, see Front backplane LEDs and rear drive LEDs.
  5. Continue to install additional hot-swap drives if necessary.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall all the drives into the drive bays. See Install a 2.5-inch hot-swap rear drive.
