Remove the 2.5-inch rear drive backplane

Use this information to remove the 2.5-inch rear drive backplane.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding systems.

Procedure

  1. Prepare your server.
    1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the rear top cover.
    2. Remove the air baffle. See Remove the air baffle.
    3. Remove all installed drives from the drive bays. See Remove a 2.5-inch hot-swap rear drive.
  2. Record the cable connections for 2.5-inch rear drive and then disconnect all cables from the backplanes. For information about the backplane cable routing, see Cable routing for rear drive backplane.
  3. Carefully lift the 2.5-inch rear drive backplane out of the rear hot-swap drive cage.

    1. Loosen the screws that secure the rear backplane.
    2. Tilt the backplane as the illustration shows.
    3. Slide the backplane out of the rear drive cage.
