XClarity One Mobile app

The XClarity One Mobile app is a versatile and user-friendly tool designed to streamline IT infrastructure management anytime, anywhere. By seamlessly integrating with the XClarity One portal in the cloud, the app delivers a consistent and intuitive experience, enabling you to monitor, manage, and optimize your devices with ease. Whether you need to check system health or perform critical operations, the XClarity One Mobile app keeps you connected and in control, meeting the demands of modern IT environments with flexibility and efficiency.

The app also supports secure and reliable access to the XClarity Controller user interface and other product data through USB tethering. By directly connecting your mobile device to a ThinkSystem server, this feature provides quick access to essential system information, even in environments with limited network connectivity.

With its dual capabilities, the XClarity One Mobile app empowers IT professionals to ensure seamless device management and maintain operational excellence with convenience and confidence.

Note
  • XClarity One Mobile is currently not supported by XClarity One on premises.
  • Corporate users cannot sign in to the mobile app unless they are organization owners.

Installation and setup

The following mobile operating systems are supported:

  • Android 12 and later
  • iOS 15 and later

Ensure that a network connection is available from your mobile device to the XClarity One portal.

Follow these instructions to install and set up the mobile app.

  1. Download the XClarity One Mobile app from Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

  2. Follow instructions on the mobile device to install the app.

  3. Provide your credentials to sign in, and then register your passkey.

    A passkey is a FIDO cryptographic credential associated with your user account, allowing you to sign in to the mobile app using the same method you use to unlock your device, such as a fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN. Once your passkey is registered, you can use it to access the mobile app without needing to enter your credentials.

XClarity One in the cloud

After setting up the app, you can access the XClarity One portal by launching the app and selecting XClarity One. The mobile app offers the same look and feel as the online portal, allowing you to view, monitor your devices, and perform operations just as you would on the portal.

XClarity Controller access via USB tethering

You can access device information and XClarity Controller user interface by tethering your mobile device directly to a ThinkSystem server using a USB cable.

Once the devices are tethered, you can display the following information.
  • VLCD – VLCD displays information about the device, including product description, network settings, firmware, temperature, voltage and utilization. You can access this information without authenticating.

  • One-touch – One Touch displays the product description and active alerts for the device. You can access this information without authenticating.

  • Open XCC – This option launches the XClarity Controller user interface. You must authenticate to connect to the XCC.

Follow these instructions to tether your mobile and ThinkSystem devices.

  1. Switch the server front panel USB from host to BMC by holding the blue System ID LED on the front panel for at least 3 seconds until the light blinks every couple of seconds.

    If the server does not have a blue System ID LED on the front panel, use the management controller web interface or CLI to change the front panel USB port management selection.

    • From the management controller CLI, run the usbfp command

    • From the management controller web interface, click BMC Configuration > Network > Front Panel USB Port Management.

  2. On your mobile device, launch the XClarity One Mobile app.

  3. Connect your mobile device to the front panel USB port on the ThinkSystem server using a high-quality USB cable that supports data and power. Be aware that some cables that are supplied with mobile devices are only for charging purposes.

    You are automatically redirected to the Settings page where you can enable USB tethering. To manually open this page:
    • For iOS, open Settings > Personal Hotspot, and enable Allow Others to Join. Optionally enable Maximum Compatibility if you have connection issues.

    • For Android, open Settings > Connections or Network & Internet > Hotspot and tethering, and enable USB tethering. Note that this option might greyed out until the USB cable is connected.

  4. Enable USB tethering.

    • For iOS, enable Allow Others to Join. Optionally enable Maximum Compatibility if you have connection issues.

    • For Android, enable USB tethering. Note that this option might greyed out until the USB cable is connected.

  5. Wait while the app connects to the server via the USB cable.

To disconnect the device from the app, simply unplug the USB cable from your mobile device.
