Remove an E3.s drive

Use this information to remove an E3.s drive.

SD665-N V3 supports E3.s 1T drive.

About this task

Required tools

Make sure you have the required tools listed below in hand to properly replace the component.

  • E3.S Drive Conduction Plate Assembly

  • E3S Putty Pad Kit

  • E3S Gap Pad Kit

    Putty pad cannot be reused. Whenever the water loop is removed, putty pads must be replaced with new ones before reinstalling the water loop.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the corresponding DWC tray that you are going to perform the task on.

  • Disconnect all external cables from the enclosure.

  • Use extra force to disconnect QSFP cables if they are connected to the solution.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the tray from the enclosure. See Remove a DWC tray from the enclosure.
    2. Remove the tray cover. See Remove the tray cover.
    3. Remove the cross braces. See Remove the cross braces.
    4. Remove the drive cage. See Remove a drive cage assembly.
  2. The cables on the E3.s drive cable-ended backplane are bundled with the cable tie. Unfasten the cable tie to release the cables from it.

  3. Remove the screw; then, remove the cable tie from the E3.s drive cage.

  4. Remove the E3.s drive cable-ended backplane.
    1. Remove the screw.
    2. Remove the backplane from the E3.s drive cage.

  5. Remove the bottom E3.s drive from the drive cage.
    1. Flip the drive cage; then, remove the four screws.
    2. Remove the bottom E3.s drive from the E3.s drive cage.

  6. Remove the conduction plate.
    1. Remove the two screws.
    2. Insert a flat head screwdriver into the notch on the corner of the drive cage; then, slightly rotate the screwdriver to release the conduction plate from the E3.s 1T drive cage.
    3. Remove the conduction plate from the E3.s drive cage.

  7. Remove the top E3.s drive.
    1. Remove the two screws.
    2. Remove the top E3.s drive from the drive cage.
