Collecting service data

You can manually collect service data for Lenovo SDI Management Platform and save the collected information as an archive in tar.gz format to the local system. When issues arise, you can send the service files to your preferred service provider to get assistance in resolving these issues.

Before you begin

Ensure that you are a member of a user group to which the predefined Supervisor role is assigned.

Ensure that the web browser does not block pop-ups for the Lenovo SDI Management Platform website when downloading service data.

To collect vCenter logs, use the password of the vCenter root user.

Device service data

  • Collecting the service data of a specific device

    1. From the Lenovo SDI Management Platform menu bar, click Resources () > Hardware, and then select a specific device from the device list.
    2. Click Service () in the secondary menu on the left, and click the Collect service data () icon. A job is created to collect and parse the service data. You can view details of the job in the Jobs card.
    3. After the job is completed, you can view the generated service data records on the current page.
  • Viewing the service data of a specific device

    1. From the Lenovo SDI Management Platform menu bar, click Administration () > Service and Support, and then click Service data () in the secondary menu to view the device service data.
    2. Select a single service data record to save, export, or delete the data record.
    3. For a service data record with the parsing status displayed as "Parsed", you can click to view the details, including system details, events, BMC, and other information about the specific server.

Service data of Lenovo SDI Management Platform

To collect service data of Lenovo SDI Management Platform, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Lenovo SDI Management Platform menu bar, click Administration () > Service and Support then click Service Data in the left navigation bar.

  2. Click Save As to collect the Orchestrator server log data and save the archive to the local system. A job is created to collect service data. You can monitor the progress of the job from the Monitoring () > Jobs card. If the job fails to be completed, click the job link to display details about the job (see Monitoring jobs).

Service data of virtual machine management tools

  • **Collecting VMware vCenter logs:**
  1. Click Virtual manager log collection to display a page for entering the vCenter appliance username and password.
  2. Enter the password of the root user, and then click Enter to download the VMware vCenter logs.
  • Collecting ESXi logs:
  1. Click ESXi log collection, select the IP address of the ESXi host from which you want to export logs, and then click Save.
  2. On the page that is displayed, enter the ESXi username and password, and then click Enter to download the logs.

:::note Note: If you access a vCenter or an ESXi host IP address for the first time, you may receive security or certificate warnings, which can be ignored. :::
