Remove the adapter-retention assembly

Use this information to remove the adapter-retention assembly.

Before you remove the adapter-retention assembly, complete the following steps:
  1. Read Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  2. If the compute node is installed in a chassis, remove it (see Remove a compute node for instructions).

  3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.
  4. Remove the compute node cover (see Remove the compute node cover for instructions).

The adapter-retention assembly consists of six separate parts. You can replace only the parts that you choose and save the unused parts for future use.

To remove the adapter-retention assembly, complete the following steps:

Figure 1. Adapter-retention assembly removal
Graphic illustrating removing the adapter-retention assembly

  1. Remove the air baffle (see Remove the air baffle for instructions).
  2. If I/O adapter is located in a slot supported by the defective adapter-retention assembly, remove it (see Remove an I/O expansion adapter for instructions). Otherwise, I/O adapter stay installed.
  3. With front edge of the compute node protruding slightly past the edge of the work surface, carefully place the compute node on its side.
    Attention
Placing front edge of the compute node protrude slightly past the edge of the work surface is necessary for stability. If you place the compute node on its side, with the protruding part of the handle on the work surface, the compute node is unstable and might fall over.
  4. Using a T10 Torx screwdriver, remove the screws that secure each part of the adapter-retention assembly that you are removing from the underside of the compute node.
    Note
All adapter-attention assembly parts are shown. Replace the parts that are needed and save the unused parts for future use.
  5. Lift each part of the adapter-retention assembly that you are removing from the system board.
  6. Carefully return the node to the bottom-side-down orientation.

If you are instructed to return the adapter-retention assembly, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
