Install the adapter-retention assembly

Use this information to install the adapter-retention assembly.

Before you install the adapter-retention assembly, complete the following steps:
  1. Read Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  2. If the compute node is installed in a chassis, remove it (see Remove a compute node for instructions).
  3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.
  4. Remove the compute node cover (see Remove the compute node cover for instructions).

The adapter-retention assembly consists of six separate parts. You can replace only the parts that you choose and save the unused parts for future use.

To install the adapter-retention assembly, complete the following steps:

  1. Remove the air baffle (see Remove the air baffle for instructions).
  2. With front edge of the compute node protruding slightly past the edge of the work surface, carefully place the compute node on its side.
    Attention
Placing front edge of the compute node protrude slightly past the edge of the work surface is necessary for stability. If you place the compute node on its side, with the protruding part of the handle on the work surface, the compute node is unstable and might fall over.
  3. Align each part of the adapter-retention assembly on the system board.
    Note
All adapter-attention assembly parts are shown. Replace the parts that are needed and save the unused parts for future use.
  4. Using a T10 Torx screwdriver, install the screws that secure each part of the adapter-retention assembly that you are installing.
  5. Carefully return the compute node to the bottom-side-down orientation.
After you install the adapter-retention assembly, complete the following steps:
  1. Install the I/O expansion adapters, if you had removed them previously (see Install an I/O expansion adapter for instructions).

  2. Install the air baffle (see Install the air baffle for instructions).

  3. Install the compute node cover onto the compute node (see Install the compute node cover for instructions).
  4. Install the compute node into the chassis (see Install a compute node for instructions).
