Install the M.2 backplane

Follow instructions in this section to install the M.2 backplane. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.

Procedure

  1. If needed, connect the M.2 backplane cables to the M.2 backplane.
    1. Tilt the connector at an angle of 20 degrees or lower, and insert it until its bottom surface reaches the ramp.
    2. Press the connector down flat.
    3. Tighten the screw on the signal cable.
    4. Connect the power cable.

  2. Install the M.2 backplane.
    1. Lower the M.2 backplane into the processor air baffle; then, slide the M.2 backplane forward until it is seated in place.
    2. Fasten the screw that secures the end of the M.2 backplane to the processor air baffle.
    3. Fasten the screw that secures the middle of the M.2 backplane to the processor air baffle.

  3. Connect the M.2 backplane cables to the system board assembly.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the M.2 drives. See Install an M.2 drive.
  2. Reinstall the 2U compute shuttle. See Install the 2U compute shuttle.
  3. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
