Application instances

An application instance is one or more virtual machines (VMs) grouped together to provide a particular set of software capabilities for a user. Application instances are deployed within a virtual datacenter.

In Cloud Controller you have four ways to create and deploy application instances:
Note
Only infrastructure admin users and VDC manager users can create and deploy application instances.

  • Create from template. Use a pre-defined template from the Lenovo Cloud Marketplace to quickly create and deploy an application instance.

  • Import from VMDK or VHD. Import a VMDK or VHD file and save it as a template.

  • Create from installer. Use an ISO image to create a new application instance.

    Note
    Live DVDs are not supported.
  • Create from a backup. Use an existing local, quick DR, or external backup of an application to create and start a new instance.
