Installing the system board

Use this information to install the system board.

Note
  1. When you reassemble the components in the server, be sure to route all cables carefully so that they are not exposed to excessive pressure.
  2. When you replace the system board, you must either update the server with the latest firmware or restore the pre-existing firmware from a diskette or CD image. Make sure that you have the latest firmware or a copy of the pre-existing firmware before you proceed. See Updating the firmware, Updating the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID), and Updating the DMI/SMBIOS data.
  3. When you replace the system board, make sure that you remove the Integrated Management Module 2.1 (IMM2.1) Advanced Upgrade and place it on the new system board. For information about the Advanced Upgrade, see Using the remote presence and blue-screen capture features
  4. Reactivate any Features on Demand features after replacing the system board. Instructions for automating the activation of features and installing activation keys is in the Lenovo Features on Demand User's Guide. If you are replacing a server component in the server, you need to turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.

To install the system board, complete the following steps.
  1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the system board to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove the system board from the package.
  2. Align the guide pins and the alignment pins on the chassis with the holes on the system board.

  3. Gently insert the system board and slide the system board toward the rear of the server.

    Note
    Make sure that none of the server cables are caught under the system board.
  4. fasten the thumb screw/handle
  5. Install any of the following components that you removed from the system board:
  6. Reconnect any cables to the system board that you disconnected during removal (see System-board internal connectors and Internal cable routing and connectors).
  7. Install the fan cage assembly (see Installing the fan cage assembly).
  8. Install the air baffle (see Replacing the air baffle).
  9. Install and lock the left-side cover (see Installing the left-side cover).
  10. Reconnect the external cables and power cords; then, turn on the attached devices and turn on the server.
  11. Start the Setup utility and reset the configuration.
    1. Set the system date and time.
    2. Set the power-on password.
    3. Reconfigure the server.

  12. Either update the server with the latest RAID firmware or restore the pre-existing firmware from a diskette or CD image.
  13. Update the UUID (see Updating the Universal Unique Identifier (UUID)).
  14. Update the DMI/SMBIOS (see Updating the DMI/SMBIOS data).
  15. Reactivate any Features on Demand features.

If you have replaced a server component or installed an optional device in the server, you need to reconnect the power cords and all external cables, and turn on the server and peripheral devices.
