Install a manifold to the rack

Follow instructions in this section to install a manifold to the rack. The procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

Disconnect power
CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

CAUTION
Electrical current from power, telephone, and communication cables is hazardous. To avoid a shock hazard:
  • Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet/source.
  • Connect any equipment that will be attached to this product to properly wired outlets/sources.
  • When possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal cables.
  • Never turn on any equipment when there is evidence of fire, water, or structural damage.
  • The device might have more than one power cord, to remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
Ensure the following tools are available to perform the replacement:
  • Two 30L containers (one labeled with “Fresh” and one labeled with Waste") with integrated hose mounts
  • Air compressor
  • Approved coolant: PG25, NALCO® TCS101, or HPCCL2000 (Deionized water premixed with a compatible antimicrobial agent)
  • Cordless transfer pump
  • Lift tool
  • Liquid cooling service kit includes below:
    • Air input kit: Connects the air compressor to the manifold
    • Filler kit: Connects the pump to the manifold
    • Coolant source kit: Connects the coolant container to the pump
  • Manifold accessory kit
  • Phillips #1 bit
  • Phillips #2 bit
  • Spill kit
  • Torque screwdriver
  • Torx T25 bit
  • Torx T40 bit

Procedure

  1. Assemble the manifold.
    1. Ensure the manifold accessory kit is available.

    2. Remove two blocks from the manifold bracket.
      1. Loosen the four screws securing the block.
      2. Remove the block out of the bracket.
      3. Repeat the process for the other block.

    3. Install the four alignment brackets onto the manifold.
      1. Place the bracket onto the manifold.
      2. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, tighten the two screws to secure the bracket.
      3. Repeat for the three remaining brackets.

    4. Install the manifold bracket.
      1. Place the bracket onto the manifold, ensuring it slides into place to cover the manifold completely.
      2. Set the torque screwdriver to 13 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, tighten the eight screws to secure the bracket.

    5. Install the eight partitions.
      1. Align the partition with the manifold bracket and slide it into place.
      2. Set the torque screwdriver to 5.2 ± 0.2 inch-pounds; then, tighten the four screws to secure the partition.
      3. Repeat for the seven remaining partitions.

    6. Install the two blocks.
      1. Align the block with the manifold bracket and slide it into place.
      2. Set the torque screwdriver to 5.2 ± 0.2 inch-pounds; then, tighten the four screws to secure the block.
      3. Repeat for the other block.

    7. Install the leak pan.
      1. Align the leak pan with the manifold bracket and slide it into place.
      2. Set the torque screwdriver to 3 ± 0.2 inch-pounds; then, tighten the four screws to secure the lean pan.

  2. Before installing the manifold, ensure the following conditions are met:
    • Water hoses are pre-installed at the bottom of the manifold.
    • Hoses rest on the ground without any strain.
    • Supply and return hoses are allocated as shown in the illustration below.

  3. Install the manifold.
    1. Align the manifold with the top and bottom guide pins, and slide it into the rack.
    2. Tighten the two top screws.
    3. Tighten the two bottom screws.
    Note
    Ensure that hoses rest on the ground without any strain during the manifold installation.

  4. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then tighten the twenty-seven thumbscrews on the rear side.

  5. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, install the twenty-seven screws to the side of each rail.

  6. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then tighten the four thumbscrews to secure the manifold to the rack.

  7. Install the inner extension bracket.
    1. Align the bracket with the manifold and place it onto the manifold.
    2. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then tighten the ten thumbscrews to secure the bracket.

  8. Install the outer extension bracket.
    1. Align the outer bracket with the inner bracket and place it onto the inner bracket.
    2. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then tighten the twenty crews to secure the outer bracket.

  9. Repeat the same steps above to install the other manifold if needed.
  10. To begin the filling procedure, process each manifold individually. Identify the four manifold hoses as Supply or Return lines based on the manifold layout shown in the following illustration.

  11. Place the supply hoses into the drainage container.
    1. Place the two supply hoses into the drainage container labeled with “Waste”.
    2. Press the button on the ball valve switch.
    3. Rotate the switch to open the ball valve.
    4. Repeat to open the other ball valve.

  12. Locate the air vent at the top of the manifold. Open the vent by loosening one screw.

  13. Fill the manifold with coolant.
    1. Install the silicon washers on the ends of filler kit and coolant source kit that connect to the cordless transfer pump.
    2. Remove the quick connector cap.
    3. Attach the filler kit to both the quick connector and the pump as illustrated below.
    4. Attach the coolant source kit to the pump, then place the opposite end into the coolant container labeled with “Fresh”.

    5. Power on the pump to circulate coolant through the manifold.
    6. Continue filling until a stead stream of coolant enters the drainage container with minimal air bubbles. Then, close the two ball valves.
    7. Listen to the air vent to ensure all hissing or venting sounds have stopped. At a pressure of 2 bars and 30 LPM, expect the cycle to last between 10 and 20 minutes.
  14. Connect the supply hoses to the facility supply.
    1. Connect the hose to the facility supply.
    2. Press the button on the ball valve switch.
    3. Rotate the switch to open the ball valve.
    4. Repeat for the other hose.

  15. Close the air vent on the top of manifold by tightening one screw.

  16. If necessary, repeat the filling process above for the other manifold.
  17. Install the bottom leakage drip tray.
    1. Align the tray with the rack and place it onto the rack.
    2. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, tighten the two screws to secure the tray.
    3. Connect the hose.

  18. Install the busbar bracket.
    1. Hold the bracket with the round screw holes at the top-left side and place it over the busbar.

    2. Set the torque screwdriver to 26 ± 1 inch-pounds; then, tighten the twelve screws to secure the bracket.

After you finish

  1. Install the cable cartridges. See Install a cable cartridge to the rack.
  2. Reinstall the compute trays, management switches, NVLink switch trays and power shelves. See Install a compute tray to the rack, Install a management switch to the rack, Install an NVLink switch tray to the rack, and Install a power shelf to the rack.
  3. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
