Remove an E3.S middle drive cage assembly

Use this information to remove an E3.S middle drive cage assembly.

About this task

Required tools

  • Screwdriver for PH 1 screws

  • MID E3.S TOP Gap Pad (SC750 V4)

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the corresponding DWC tray that you are going to perform the task on.

  • Disconnect all external cables from the enclosure.

  • Use extra force to disconnect QSFP cables if they are connected to the solution.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the tray from the enclosure. See Remove a tray from the enclosure.
    2. Remove the tray cover. See Remove the tray cover.
  2. Remove sixteen (16x) screws to remove the rear cross brace.

  3. Disconnect the cables from the system board. See Internal cable routing.
  4. Remove the two PH1 screws on the front of the drive cage.
    The screw locations are different for bottom-side cooling drive and top-side cooling drive, see the illustrations below for details.

  5. Disconnect cable from the drive.

  6. Remove the two PH1 screws on top of the drive cage.

  7. Remove the drive cage.
    1. Rotate the drive cage until it is positioned at an angle.
    2. Disengage the drive cage from cold plate, and remove it from the water loop.
