USB flash drive removal and installation for single Ethernet port SMM

Use this information to remove and install the USB flash drive from and to the single Ethernet port SMM for data backup and restore.

Before you remove and install the USB flash drive for SMM data backup and restore:
  1. Read the following section(s) to ensure that you work safely.
  2. Make sure the SMM that you have is a single Ethernet port SMM. If it is a dual Ethernet port SMM, go to MicroSD card removal and installation for dual Ethernet port SMM instead. See System Management Module (SMM) to discern the type of SMM that you have.

Complete the following steps to remove and install the USB flash drive for SMM data backup and restore:

  1. Align the USB flash drive with the connector on the single Ethernet port SMM, and push it in until it is firmly connected.

    Note
When the USB flash drive and a management Ethernet cable (to the RJ-45 port) are connected to the SMM at the same time, adjust the strap as in either of the following illustrations.

  2. Complete the following steps to perform backup of SMM settings, enclosure VPD and PDM VPD. For more information, see SMM backup and recovery.
    1. Update the solution firmware to the latest level.
    2. Log in to SMM web interface.
    3. Go to System Information section, and select enclosure VPD or PDM VPD tab.
    4. Perform data backup.
  3. After data backup is completed, pull the USB flash drive out from the connector to remove it from the single Ethernet port SMM.

  4. Remove the single Ethernet port SMM (see Remove the System Management Module (SMM)).
  5. Install the new single Ethernet port SMM (see Install the System Management Module (SMM)).
    Note
For proper data restoration, make sure to replace the single Ethernet port SMM with another unit of the same type of SMM. Do not replace the single Ethernet port SMM with a dual Ethernet port SMM.
  6. Keep the USB flash drive, and install it to the new single Ethernet port SMM (See step 1).
After you install the USB flash drive to the new single Ethernet port SMM for data restore, complete the following steps.
  1. Connect all cables to the single Ethernet port SMM.

  2. Log in to SMM web interface, and perform data restore of SMM settings, enclosure VPD and PDM VPD. For more information, see SMM backup and recovery.
