External Diagnostics Handset

The External Diagnostics Handset is an external device that is connected to the server with a cable, and it allows quick access to system information such as errors, system status, firmware, network, and health information.

With this component, the diagnostic handset can be attached to the top or side of the rack with hands spared for service tasks.

3 External diagnostics connector

This connector is located on the front of the server, and is used to connect an External Diagnostics Handset.

  • Press the plastic clip on the plug forward.
  • Hold the clip and remove the cable from the connector.

Display panel overview​

The diagnostics device consists of an LCD display and 5 navigation buttons.

Press the scroll buttons to locate and select system information.

Press the select button to select from the options in the menu.

ThinkEdge security feature: improving data security​

Important
Before reverting XCC to Defaults, read the following section to make sure the server is with proper security settings.

When XCC is reverted to default by External Diagnostics Handset, depending on the settings, the XCC password might be reset at the same time.

If the server’s System Lockdown Mode status is XClarity Controller, once the XCC password is reset, unauthorized users can use the default credentials to login to XCC.

With ThinkEdge security features, the following security settings are adjustable. Make sure to configure the settings to prevent data loss:
  • When reverting XCC to default by External Diagnostics Handset, the XCC password will be reset or not. (Default: The XCC password will not be reset.)
  • When the XCC password is reset by External Diagnostics Handset or mobile app, the SED AK stored in the server will be cleared or not. (Default: The SED AK will be cleared.)
