Note
If you replace a part, such as an adapter, that contains firmware, you might also need to update the firmware for that part. For more information about updating firmware, see Firmware updates.
- Installation Guidelines
Before installing components in your server, read the installation guidelines. - Adapter replacement
Adapters are in several locations in the I/O tray that is accessed from the rear of the server. You can install up to 17 adapters in the server. The removal and installation procedures for each riser type are different and are described in the following topics: - System battery (CR2032) replacement
The system battery is in the I/O tray that is accessed from the rear of the server. - System board replacement
System boards are in the upper or lower compute tray that is accessed from the front of the server. - System board filler replacement
System board fillers are in the upper or lower compute tray that is accessed from the front of the server. - Upper/lower compute tray replacement
Use the following procedures to remove and install the upper or lower compute tray. - Fan replacement
Use the following procedures to remove and install a fan. Fans are at the front of the server behind the front cover. - Fan cage replacement
Fan cages are in the upper and lower compute trays or optional storage tray that are accessed from the front of the server. Procedures for removing and installing fan cages in the upper and lower trays are different. - Front bezel replacement
Use the following procedures to remove and install the front bezels. - Front cover replacement
Use the following procedures to remove and install the front cover. - Front operator panel replacement
The front operator panels is in the lower compute tray that is accessed from the front of the server. - Front USB/VGA assembly replacement
The front USB/VGA assemblys is in the lower compute tray that is accessed from the front of the server. - Hard disk drive backplane replacement
Hard disk drive backplanes are in the upper and lower trays that are accessed from the front of the server. The removal and installation procedures for backplanes in the upper and lower trays are different. - Hard disk drive replacement
Use the following procedures to remove and install hard disk drives and hard disk drive fillers. Hard disk drives are at the front of the server. - I/O tray replacement
The I/O tray is accessed from the rear of the server. The I/O tray is the server component that stores server identity information. This information must be transferred to the new I/O tray during maintenance replacement. - M.2 backplane replacement
The M.2 backplane is in the I/O tray that is accessed from the rear of the server. - M.2 drive replacement
M.2 drives are in the I/O tray that is accessed from the rear of the server. - Memory air baffle replacement
Use the following procedures to replace a memory air baffle. - Memory module replacement
Use the following procedures to replace a memory module. - Midplane replacement
Use the following procedures to remove and install a midplane. Midplanes are at the top of the server under the top cover. There are several types of midplane. The removal and installation procedures for each midplane type is similar. - Power supply replacement
Use the following procedures to remove and install power supplies and power supply fillers. Power supplies are at the rear of the server. - Processor and heat sink replacement
Use the following procedures to replace an assembled processor and heat sink, known as a processor-heat-sink module (PHM), a processor, or a heat sink. - RAID card replacement
RAID cards are in the upper and lower trays that are accessed from the front of the server. Procedures for removing and installing RAID cards in the upper and lower trays are different. - RAID flash power module replacement
RAID flash power modules are in the upper and lower trays that are accessed from the front of the server. Procedures for removing and installing RAID flash power modules in the upper and lower trays are different. - Riser replacement
Risers are in the I/O tray that is accessed from the rear of the server. The removal and installation procedures for each riser type are different and are described in the following topics: - Storage board assembly replacement
The storage board assembly is in the upper storage tray that is accessed from the front of the server. - Storage interposer replacement
Storage interposers are in the upper and lower trays that are accessed from the front of the server. Procedures for removing and installing storage interposers in the upper and lower trays are different. - Storage tray replacement
The storage tray is in the upper bay that is accessed from the front of the server. This optional device is used only in storage-rich server configurations. - TCM/TPM adapter replacement (for Chinese Mainland only)
Use this information to remove and install the TCM/TPM adapter (sometimes called a daughter card). - Upper tray filler replacement
The upper tray filer is in the upper bay that is accessed from the front of the server. This optional component is used only in some server configurations. - Complete the parts replacement
