SAS port – improper connection (miswire)

This problem is caused by one of the following:

  • If the miswire type listed in the Details area is an invalid SAS topology, then there is either an improper connection between two IOM's in ports, between two IOM's out ports, or between the controller's drive channel port and an IOM out port.

  • If the miswire type is an IOM (ESM) miswire, then a controller is improperly connected, either directly or indirectly, to both IOMs in a single drive shelf.

  • If the miswire type is a host channel miswire, then a controller's host channel port is improperly connected to a drive channel port.

Important
  • Refer to the cabling documentation for the storage array's controller and drive shelves for more information on valid cabling configurations.

  • It may be necessary for you to reconnect more than one cable in order to have a valid configuration.

Recovery Steps

  1. What miswire type is shown in the Details area?

    • If the miswire type is an invalid SAS topology, go to step 2.

    • If the miswire type is an IOM (ESM) miswire, go to step 3.

    • If the miswire type is a host channel miswire, go to step 4.

  2. Trace the drive channel cables from both controllers and reconfigure the cables such that each cable connects an out port on the controller or an IOM to an in port on an IOM in a different drive shelf, and then go to step 5.

  3. Trace the drive channel cables from both controllers and reconfigure the cables such that no controller is connected, either directly or indirectly, to both IOMs in a single drive shelf, and then go to step 5.

  4. Disconnect the cable attached to the port listed in the Details area and reconnect it to one of the controller's drive channel ports.

  5. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved. If this problem still appears in the Problems area, go to step 4.

  6. Power-cycle ALL of the components involved in the miswire.

  7. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
