Thin volume – allocated capacity limit reached

Important
Because the thin volume's allocated capacity limit has been reached, it does not have any capacity to save new data. Therefore, the thin volume will fail write requests until you increase its allocated capacity limit.

Recovery Steps

  1. Is the used capacity being reported by the host's operating system significantly less than the used capacity reported in the ThinkSystem System Manager?

    • If yes, issue a SCSI UNMAP command from the host to reclaim the excess capacity from the thin volume's repository. If this problem persists after the Thin Capacity Reclamation operation has completed, go to step 2.

    • If no, go to step 2.

  2. Does the pool associated with the thin volume have free capacity available?

    • If yes, go to step 4.

    • If no, go to step 3.

  3. Expand the capacity of the pool by adding drives or obtaining additional free capacity by deleting any unneeded volumes.

  4. Increase the allocated capacity limit.

    1. Go to Storage > Volumes. Then, select the Thin Volume Monitoring tab.

    2. Highlight the affected thin volume shown in the Details area.

    3. Select Change Limit and increase the allocated capacity limit if it is currently at a value lower than the reported capacity for the thin volume. .

  5. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
