Secondary volume - reserved capacity full

All of the reserved capacity of a secondary volume in an asynchronous mirrored pair has been used.

  • This problem occurs when synchronization of a mirror consistency group causes the reserved capacity of a secondary mirrored volume to become full before the synchronization operation completed. As a result, synchronization of the mirror consistency group was suspended to preserve the recovery point for the mirrored pair.

  • The Remaining unsynchronized data field shown in the Details area indicates the amount of data that was unsynchronized at the time the reserved capacity became full. This value may help you identify whether you should increase the reserved capacity.

  • You can fix this problem in two ways: (1) Preserve the recovery point by increasing the reserved capacity of the secondary mirrored volume, and then resuming synchronization of the mirror consistency group on the remote storage array, or (2) Discard the recovery point by resuming synchronization of the mirror consistency group on the remote storage array without increasing the reserved capacity of the secondary mirrored volume.

Recovery Steps

  1. Is the amount of unsynchronized data high or low in the Remaining unsynchronized data field shown in the Details area?

    • If high, you should keep the recovery point and increase the reserved capacity. Go to step 2.

    • If low, this problem may be a result of a a one-time, unusually high amount of write activity to the primary volume. Unless this problem begins to occur on a regular basis, the reserved capacity is likely adequate and you can discard the recovery point. Go to step 3.

  2. Increase the reserved capacity of the affected secondary volume shown in the Details area, and then go to step 3.

    1. Go to Storage > Pools & Volume Groups. Then, select the Reserved Capacity tab.

    2. Highlight the affected mirrored pair shown in the Details area.

    3. Select Increase Capacity and increase the capacity appropriately.

    4. Go to step 3.

  3. Resume the mirror consistency group on the remote storage array, and then go to step 4.

    1. Launch the storage management software for the remote storage array.

    2. Go to Home and select Recover from problems at the top of the page.

    3. Select the Synchronization Suspended problem and follow the recovery steps to resume the mirror consistency group.

    4. After you have resumed the mirror consistency group, return to this procedure and go to step 4.

  4. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
