Remove a PCIe riser assembly (ConnectX-6)

Use this information to remove a PCIe riser assembly with ConnectX-6 adapter.

About this task

Required tools

Make sure you have the ConnectX-6 Putty Pad Kit to properly replace the component. Putty pad cannot be reused. Whenever a component is removed, putty pads must be replaced with new ones before reinstalling the component.

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the corresponding DWC tray that you are going to perform the task on.

  • Disconnect all external cables from the enclosure.

  • Use extra force to disconnect QSFP cables if they are connected to the solution.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the tray from the enclosure. See Remove a DWC tray from the enclosure.
    2. Remove the tray cover. See Remove the tray cover.
    3. Remove the cross braces. See Remove the cross braces.
    4. For shared I/O or socket direct configurations, disconnect the cable from the system board. See Internal cable routing.
    Note
    The following illustration might differ slightly from your hardware, but the installation method is the same.
  2. If a heatpipe beam is installed, remove the screw that secures the heatpipe beam and remove it.

  3. Loosen the PCIe riser assembly.
    1. Loosen the captive screw on the PCIe riser assembly.
    2. Loosen the captive screw on the clamp bracket and remove it.
    3. Remove the screw that secures the riser assembly.

  4. Loosen the PCIe riser assembly.
    1. Loosen the captive screw on the PCIe riser assembly.
    2. Carefully grasp the PCIe riser-cage assembly by its edges and remove it out of the node.

  5. If necessary, remove the hex standoff screw and the two Torx T10 screws that secure the interface plate; then, remove the interface plate.

  6. If necessary, install the blank bezel fillers.

If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

If you need to disassemble the PCIe riser assembly, follow the instructions below:
Attention
You can only disassemble a PCIe riser assembly for recycle. Do not disassemble it for any other purposes.

  1. If necessary, remove Mylar film from the PCIe riser assembly.

  2. Remove the two screws with a 3/16" hex head screwdriver; then, separate the expansion board from the cage.

  3. Recycle the unit in compliance with local regulations.
