Backup and replication

This topic describes how to back up and restore virtual machines on the Lenovo SDI Management Platform.

Before you begin

  1. The system supports the following external backup software:
    • Veeam® Backup \& Replication™ v11 and later versions.
Note:

Versions earlier than Lenovo SDI Management Platform v3.0.0 do not support Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager 12 currently.

  • Ensure that the vCenter server instances managed by this system have been added to Veeam Backup \& Replication. See Deployment instructions.
  • Ensure that Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager has been installed and VBR is connected. See Deployment instructions.
  • Ensure that Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager has been registered with the system on the resource manager page.
  1. Click Resources () > Backup and Restore to enter the page.

Procedure

You can view information such as backup services, backup tasks, backup storage repositories, and virtual machine backup status.

  • View the Services card.

    • Backup Server: indicates the number of backup servers.
    • Proxy Server: indicates the number of backup proxy servers.
    • Repository Server: indicates the number of backup storage repository servers.
  • View the Tasks card.

    • Running Tasks: indicates the number of backup and replication tasks that are running.
    • Timed Tasks: indicates the number of backup and replication tasks that are performed at a scheduled time.
      • Backup: indicates the number of backup tasks that are performed at a scheduled time.
      • Replication: indicates the number of replication tasks that are performed at a scheduled time.
  • View the Repositories card. This card displays capacity usage information about all backup storage repositories. For each storage repository, the following information is provided:

    • Used: indicates the used storage capacity.

    • Idle: indicates the remaining storage capacity.

    • Status: indicates the repository capacity status. Different colors represent different states.

      Used space < 75%

Used space is between 75% and 80%

      Used space > 80%

  • View the Virtual Machines card. This card summarizes the protected status of all virtual machines in the cluster.

    • Protected virtual machines. Mover the mouse pointer over the green circle. The number of protected virtual machines will be displayed. A virtual machine is considered protected if it has been successfully backed up or replicated at least once.
    • Unprotected virtual machines. Mover the mouse pointer over the gray circle. The number of unprotected virtual machines will be displayed.
    • Total number of virtual machines. The number of all virtual machines in the current cluster is displayed.
  • View the virtual machine details card: Click the number or circle on the Virtual Machines card to display the backup and replication details of the corresponding virtual machine.

    • Virtual machine name.
    • Task: indicates the name of a virtual machine backup or replication task.
    • Backup restore points: indicates the number of backup restore points.
      • Click the number of Backup restore points to view the history of backup restore points, including the time and type data of Backup restore points.
    • Last backup status: indicates the time and result of the last backup operation for this virtual machine. If the status is Warning or Failed, click to view details.
    • Replica restore points: indicates the number of replica restore points.
      • Click the number of Replica restore points to view the history of replica restore points, including the time and type data of Replica restore points.
    • Last replication status: indicates the time and result of the last replication operation for this virtual machine. If the status is Warning or Failed, click to view details.
