Processor heat sink replacement (trained technician only)

Follow instructions in this section to remove or install a processor heat sink. This procedure must be executed by a trained technician.

CAUTION

Attention/Caution/Danger icon, warning users and servicers of a hot surface nearby
The heat sinks and processors might be very hot. Turn off the server and wait several minutes to let the server cool before removing the server cover.
Attention
Before reusing a heat sink, make sure you use Lenovo proven alcohol cleaning pad and thermal grease.
Important
The processor in the server can throttle in response to thermal conditions, temporarily lowering its speed to reduce heat output. In instances where a few processor cores are throttled for an extremely short time period (100 ms or less), the only indication might be an entry in the operating system event log with no corresponding entry in the system XCC event log. If this situation occurs, the event can be ignored and processor replacement is not required.
