Remove the air baffle

Follow instructions in this section to remove the air baffle.

To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. If applicable, unlock or remove any locking device that secures the top cover, such as a Kensington lock; then, remove the top cover (see Remove the top cover).
  2. Remove the air baffle.
    CAUTION
    Hazardous moving parts. Keep fingers and other body parts away.
    This label indicates hazardous moving parts nearby and warns users and servicers to keep fingers and other body parts away.
    1. Pinch both sides of the air baffle; then, disengage the air baffle from its slot.
    2. Lift up the air baffle to remove it from the node.

      Attention
      For proper cooling and airflow, reinstall the air baffle before you turn on the server. Operating the server without the air baffle might damage server components.

 

After this task is completed

  • Make sure to install the air baffle back after finishing component replacement (see Install an air baffle).
  • If you are instructed to return the component, follow all of the packaging instructions and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
