Remove a PCIe adapter

Use this information to remove a PCIe adapter from the riser.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

  • Replacing the adapter might impact your RAID configurations. Back up your data before the replacement to avoid any data loss due to a RAID configuration change.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
    2. Remove the PCIe riser assembly. See Remove the PCIe riser assembly.
  2. Remove the PCIe adapter.
    1. Disengage the adapter by pulling it straight out of the riser cage.
    2. If necessary, install the fillers.

    Note
    Remove one adapter at a time, do not pull out two adapters at the same time.
  3. Record the cable connections on the adapter; then, disconnect all cables from the adapter.

After you finish

  1. Install a replacement unit. See Install a PCIe adapter.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
