Remove the E3.S drive cage filler

Follow instructions in this section to remove the E3.S drive cage filler.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.
  • If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover, or remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from rack.
  • To make sure that there is adequate system cooling, do not operate the solution for more than two minutes without either a drive or a filler installed in each bay.
  • If one or more EDSFF drives are to be removed, it is recommended to disable them beforehand via the operating system.
  • Before you remove or make changes to drives, drive controllers (including controllers that are integrated on the system board assembly), drive backplanes or drive cables, back up all important data that is stored on drives.
  • When removing drives, record the drive bay the drive is removed from, and use the record as a checklist when installing the drives.

    5. Disconnect the following cables from the system board assembly:
      • Front I/O module cables
      • Front operator panel cable
    6. Remove all of the E3.S hot-swap drives and the drive bay fillers (if any) from the drive bays. See Remove an E3.S hot-swap drive. Place the drives on a static protective surface.
    7. Disconnect the power and signal cables from the E3.S dive backplane.
    8. Remove the E3.S drive cage assembly. See Remove the E3.S drive cage assembly.
    9. Depending on the configuration, remove the CX-7 assembly or the SXM5 PCIe switch board. See Remove the CX-7 assembly or Remove the SXM5 PCIe switch board.
    10. Remove the front drive tray. See Remove the front drive tray.
  2. Remove the E3.S drive cage filler.
    1. Unfasten the two screws that secure the E3.S drive cage filler to the front drive tray.
    2. Slide the E3.S drive cage filler toward the left side of the front drive tray to disengage it from the front drive tray; then, slide the E3.S drive cage filler out of the front drive tray.
