Install a midplane

Midplanes are at the top of the server under the top cover. Insert each midplane into the top of the chassis; then, replace the top cover and secure with eight screws.

Electrical current from power, telephone, and communication cables is hazardous.

To avoid a shock hazard:

  • Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet/source.
  • Connect any equipment that will be attached to this product to properly wired outlets/sources.
  • When possible, use one hand only to connect or disconnect signal cables.
  • Never turn on any equipment when there is evidence of fire, water, or structural damage.
  • The device might have more than one power cord, to remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Make sure that all server power cords are disconnected from their power sources before performing this procedure.

Complete the following steps to install a midplane:

Note
Before installing a midplane, make sure that all of the compute or storage trays, the I/O tray, and all of the power supplies are removed from the server or slid partially out.

  1. Align each midplane with its opening in the top of the chassis and insert, making sure that the posts on the midplane fit into the slots in the midplane opening.
  2. Push the midplane into chassis until it stops.
    Note
    There is a notch in the server top cover to indicate correct alignment. The top cover must be installed in the correct orientation so that the cover pins that help support the backplanes engage.
  3. Position the top cover on the server and secure it with eight screws.
