Remove a fan

Press the fan handle inward toward the center of the server to release the latch; then, pull the fan forward halfway, and wait 10 seconds before pulling the fan out of the server. Fans are hot-swap devices that can be removed while the server is powered on.

CAUTION

Hazardous moving fan blades nearby. Keep fingers and other body parts away.

Before you remove a fan, remove the front cover. See Remove the front cover.

Complete the following steps to remove a fan:

1. Press the fan handle inward toward the center of the server to release the latch; then, pull the fan forward halfway (see Figure 1), and wait 10 seconds.
2. Pull the fan forward and out of the server. The fan is connected to the fan handle via a hinge and the fan will flop downward when it is removed from the server.

   To maintain system cooling, all fans must be installed in the server during operation.
