Remove the server cover

Follow this procedure to remove the server cover.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Procedure

  1. Place the server on its side with the cover up.
  2. Remove the serve cover.
    1. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the server cover to the chassis.
    2. Slide the server cover away from the front bezel, and lift it up from the chassis. Reserve the screws to be used for reinstalling the server cover.
      Attention
      • The heat sinks and processor could be very hot. To avoid burning yourself, wait for a few minutes after turning off the server before you remove the server cover.

      • For proper cooling, always install the server cover before powering on the server. Operating the server without the cover properly installed might result in server component damage.

  3. (Optional) Remove the cage bar. Remove the optical drive cage first, see Remove the optical drive cage; then, proceed to the following procedures.
    1. Push the latch on the cage bar until the cage bar is disengaged from the chassis.
    2. Rotate the cage bar and remove it from the chassis.
