Migrating XClarity Administrator to XClarity One
You can migrate an existing Lenovo XClarity Administrator v4.3.4 or later instance to Lenovo XClarity One and a connected Lenovo XClarity One Hub v1.5 or later. This transfers management of the devices to the target hub and imports artifacts such as firmware policies, device-settings configurations (configuration patterns), groups, service tickets, and XClarity Pro licenses into XClarity One. After the migration is complete, you can continue managing other devices using XClarity One and the hub.
Migrating artifacts to XClarity one
Currently, you cannot migrate an XClarity Administrator instance that manages more than 500 devices.
You can migrate a specific XClarity Administrator instance multiple times, but artifacts that were migrated are not migrated again.
Before you begin:
Ensure that the XClarity Administrator instance is at v4.3.4 or later.
Ensure that the XClarity Administrator instance has valid licenses for each managed device.
Back up the XClarity Administrator system data and settings and then save the backup to your local system (see Backing up XClarity Administrator in the XClarity Administrator online documentation).
Ensure that you are an organization owner in the organization.
Ensure that your XClarity Administrator user account has lxc-supervisor or lxc-admin privileges.
Ensure that the hub that you want to use to manage the new devices is connected to XClarity One and is in a healthy state. The hub must be Lenovo XClarity One Hub v1.5 or later.
Click the Device management view, click Unmanaged Devices in the context menu, and then click the Add icon (
) above the table. When the wizard opens, select Migrate from LXCA for the device type, and then follow the steps in the wizard to complete the process.Click the Organizations management view, and then click the Add icon (
) from the Management hubs panel, and follow the steps in the wizard to complete the process. You are given the option to migrate an XClarity Administrator instance to this new hub.
Only supported devices and compatible artifacts are migrated. XClarity One assesses each device and artifact to determine which ones are eligible for migration. The migration assessment includes a list of eligible and ineligible devices and artifacts and the reason why they are ineligible. You can view this assessment from the user interface before you start the migration process.
Eligible devices are unmanaged by XClarity Administrator and then managed by the hub. Only devices that are supported by the hub and running firmware released January 2023 or late are migrated.
For a list of eligible devices, see XClarity One Hub Support for Servers webpage.
Eligible static groups are migrated to XClarity One. Groups must have at least one eligible device.
Eligible firmware policies are migrated to XClarity One as firmware rules in templates (see Firmware rules and criteria). The firmware policies must be assigned and compliant on at least one eligible device and the target firmware must be released January 2023 or later.
Eligible configuration patterns are migrated to XClarity One as device-settings configurations (see Device settings configurations). Configuration patterns must be applied and compliant on at least one eligible device and must include settings for BMC and UEFI versions released January 2024 or later. Only BMC and UEFI settings are included in the device-settings configurations; other settings are not migrated.
NoteIn XClarity One, device-settings configurations are learned from an existing device. For each configuration patterns that is migrated from XClarity Administrator, XClarity One generates a device-settings configuration based on what is learned from a device of that device type. Therefore, the configurations in XClarity One might have component settings that are not included in the migrated XClarity Administrator configuration patterns.
Only one device-settings configuration is allowed per device type.
Eligible service tickets are migrated to XClarity One. Only service tickets that were created by Call Home and are related to eligible devices are migrated. Service Now, Cherwell, and software Call Home service tickets are not migrated.
Your active XClarity Pro licenses are imported into XClarity One. These licenses are aggregated as XClarity One – Managed Device, Per Endpoint licenses in the user interface. The number of licensed devices, software support entitlement, and expiration date remain the same as the XClarity Pro licenses.
- Devices that have encapsulation enabled. Disable encapsulation on the devices before migrating them to XClarity One.
- Dynamic groups. Eligible devices in the dynamic groups are migrated.
- Events and alerts. Consider downloading the events logs from XClarity Administrator before starting the migration to keep a historical record.
- Firmware packages and operating systems images
- XClarity Pro Enterprise licenses
Reverting the migration
If something went wrong during the migration and you wish to revert the XClarity Administrator instance back to the initial state, you can restore the XClarity Administrator instance using the backup archive (see Restoring XClarity Administrator in the XClarity Administrator online documentation).
After restoring XClarity Administrator, your managed devices will appear offline because they are still managed by XClarity One. You must remanage the devices in XClarity Administrator using the Force option.
