SMTP configuration

When running Lenovo XClarity One, you can allow XClarity One to send user-management notifications (such as new users and reset passwords) and forward events data through email using an existing SMTP server in your environment.

To configure an SMTP email server, click Portal configuration on the context menu from the Settings view, and then locate the SMTP configuration panel.

Note
  • If the SMTP server is not configured correctly or if the credentials fail, the SMTP configuration is automatically disabled. When the SMTP configuration is disabled, you cannot create a new data forwarder and existing SMTP data forwarders cannot forward data.

  • When SMTP is not configured, additional popups are displayed in lieu of an email for user-management actions, and the ability to forward events and reports is disabled.

  • To forward email to a web-based email service (such as Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo), your SMTP server must support forwarding web mail.

SMTP connection

XClarity One supports the follow security protocols for email encryption.

  • SSL

  • STARTTLS. This is the recommended method for encrypting SMTP connections, offering a more secure way to transmit emails.

Sender email address

You must specify an email address (sender name and domain) for the user account that you want to use to send emails (for example, hazel@acme.com).

Note
The hostname can be use as the domain for the mail sender; however, if you use an IP address for the hostname, the mail sender cannot be validated.

SMTP server authentication

When saving the SMTP configuration, XClarity One validates the connection to the SMTP server. You can choose to use regular or OAuth-based authentication, which requires a username and password, or a token-based authentication to verify the connection
