Remove a hot-swap solid-state drive

Use this information to remove a hot-swap solid-state drive. This section applies to 7mm 2.5-inch SATA/NVMe and 15mm 2.5-inch NVMe solid-state drives.

About this task

Attention
  • Read the Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  • To make sure that there is adequate system cooling, do not operate the solution for more than two minutes without either a drive or a filler installed in each bay.

  • Before you remove or make changes to drives, drive controllers (including controllers that are integrated on the system board), drive backplanes or drive cables, back up all important data that is stored on drives.

Procedure

  1. Make sure that you have saved the data on your drive before removing it from the compute node.
  2. Based on your configuration, follow the corresponding procedures to remove a 7mm 2.5-inch SATA/NVMe or 15mm 2.5-inch NVMe solid-state drive.

    Remove a 7mm 2.5-inch SATA/NVMe solid-state drive:

    1. Slide the latch to unlock the drive handle.
    2. Grasp the handle and slide the drive out of the drive bay.

    Remove a 15mm 2.5-inch NVMe solid-state drive:

    1. Slide the latch to unlock the drive handle.
    2. Grasp the handle and slide the drive out of the drive bay.
