Install an M.2 drive

Follow instructions in this section to install an M.2 drive.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

Procedure

  1. Locate the M.2 drive slot to install the M.2 drive.

    1 M.2 Bay 0 / Slot 11 M.2 Bay 1 / Slot 2
    Note
    If the configuration is with only one M.2 drive, install the M.2 drive in M.2 Bay 0 / Slot 1.
  2. If necessary, adjust the retainer on the M.2 backplane to accommodate the particular size of the M.2 drive to be installed. See Adjust the retainer on the M.2 backplane.
  3. Install the M.2 drive.
    1. Hold the M.2 drive at an angle of approximately 30 degrees, and insert it into the M.2 slot.
    2. Lower the M.2 drive down to the M.2 backpalne.
    3. Slide the retainer toward the M.2 drive to secure the drive in place.

    Note
    If necessary, repeat this procedure to the other M.2 drive to be installed.
