Follow instructions in this section to install the M.2 backplane assembly.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.
Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.
Connect the M.2 signal and power cables to the M.2 backplane.

Connect the cable to the M.2 backplane.
Hook the wire bail on the cable onto the connector.
Note
When installing the M.2 backplane assembly for the first time, do the cable routing for M.2 backplane. See M.2 backplane cable routing.
Install the M.2 backplane assembly.
Pinch the pull tape and the blue touch point, and align the M.2 backplane assembly with the guide pins on the chassis; then, lower the assembly down to the chassis, and push the assembly forward until it clicks into place.
Fasten the thumbscrew to secure the M.2 backplane assembly.
