Remove the top cover

Follow instructions in this section to remove the top cover.

Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels might be present. Only a qualified service technician is authorized to remove the covers where the label is attached.

About this task

Attention

Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.
If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from the rack.
If applicable, remove the security bezel. See Remove the security bezel.

Procedure

Remove the top cover.

Unlock the top cover with the key that is stored in the key holder on the top cover.
Important
Before moving the top cover, make sure that the keylock is in the unlock position.

Press and hold on the button and the blue touch point to disengage the top cover.
Slide and lift the cover to remove it from the chassis; then, place it on a flat clean surface.
Attention
- Service label is located on the inside of the top cover.
- For proper cooling and air flow, install the top cover before you power on the server. Operating the server with the top cover removed might damage server components.
