Install the system board

Use this information to install the system board.

Before installing the system board: .
  1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new system board to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server. Then, take the new system board out of the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

  2. Install the fan board, which you have removed from the failing system board, on the new system board. See Install the fan board.

  3. Install the PIB board, which you have removed from the failing system board, on the new system board. See Install the PIB board.

To install the system board, complete the following steps:

Depending on the model, the blue lift handle on your system board might look slightly different from the illustration below.

  1. Hold the release pin 1 and the lift handle 2 at the same time to lower the system board into the chassis.
  2. Slide the system board to the rear of the server until the system board snaps into position.
    Ensure that:
    • The new system board is engaged by the mounting stud 3 on the chassis.

    • The rear connectors on the new system board are inserted into the corresponding holes in the rear panel.

    • The release pin 1 secures the system board in place.

After you finish
  1. Install any components that you have removed from the failing system board. See the related topics in Hardware replacement procedures.
    • Processor and heat sink

    • Memory modules

    • System fans

    • System fan cage

    • M.2 module

    • Internal riser kit

    • RAID super capacitor modules

    • Riser assemblies

    • CMOS battery

    • TPM adapter (only available in Chinese Mainland)

    • OCP 3.0 Ethernet adapter

  2. Update the VPD. See Update the Vital Product Data (VPD).
    • (Required) Machine type

    • (Required) Serial number

    • (Optional) Asset tag

    • (Optional) UUID

  3. Configure the security settings. See Enable TPM and Enable UEFI Secure Boot.
