Remove a PCIe adapter

Use this information to remove a PCIe adapter.

Note
  • Depending on the specific type, your PCIe adapter, riser card, and riser bracket might look different from the illustration in this topic. The illustration shows how to remove a PCIe adapter from riser card 1 in riser 1 bracket. The removal procedure is similar for PCIe adapters on other riser cards in other riser brackets.

  • Use any documentation that comes with the PCIe adapter and follow those instructions in addition to the instructions in this topic.

Before removing a PCIe adapter:
  1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.

  2. Record the cable connections on the PCIe adapter and then disconnect all cables from the PCIe adapter.

  3. Remove the riser bracket and lay it upside down on a flat, clean, and static-protective surface. See Riser card replacement.

To remove a PCIe adapter, complete the following steps:

For PCIe adapters in riser 1 and riser 2 and ThinkSystem AMD X3522 10/25GbE DSFP28 2-port PCIe Ethernet Adapter, remove the screw that secures the adapter first.

  1. Press the tab to pivot the PCIe adapter retention latch to the open position.

  2. Grasp the PCIe adapter by its edges and carefully pull it out of the PCIe slot.
    Note
    The PCIe adapter might fit tightly into the PCIe slot. If necessary, alternatively move each side of the PCIe adapter a small and equal amount until it is removed from the slot.
